Malaysia’s Best Golf Course by World Golf Awards for the Second Consecutive Year

Intertwining nature and panoramic views that provides an experience beyond golf

The Valley Course at The Els Club Desaru Coast solidifies its place as Malaysia’s Best Golf Course for a second consecutive year with another World Golf Awards™ accolade. This global recognition was conferred at the 8th annual World Golf Awards Gala Ceremony in Dubai this month. Part of the World Travel Awards™, World Golf Awards serves to celebrate and reward excellence in golf tourism, world-class courses and golf destinations.

Set within Desaru Coast, recently listed in Time Magazine as one of the World’s Greatest Places of 2021, The Els Club Desaru Coast is made up of beautifully manicured championship Valley and Ocean golf courses surrounded by a wide variety of wildlife species in the Southeast of Johor, intertwining nature and panoramic views to offer an experience beyond golf.

The stunning and award-winning Valley Course was designed by three-time major champion Vijay Singh in collaboration with four-time major champion Ernie Els’ design team and is located adjacent to the 27-hole championship Els Club Ocean course.

Desaru Coast, in turn, is home to world-class hotels including Asia’s first, One and Only, Malaysia’s first Anantara Desaru Coast Resort and Villas, The Westin Desaru Coast Resort, Hard Rock Hotel Desaru Coast and the region’s largest waterpark, Adventure Waterpark Desaru Coast.

“This is the best of times for The Els Club Desaru Coast. Huge credit goes to the Golf Course Maintenance team led by our Group Director of Agronomy, Sean Kinsley, for their relentless hard work and dedication in delivering a world-class golfing experience every time,” said Steven Thielke, General Manager of The Els Club Desaru Coast.

With international travel set to gradually resume in the upcoming months with standard health and safety operating procedures being adhered to, this is the perfect time for Malaysian golfers and golfers from across the region to discover The Els Club Desaru Coast and explore Desaru Coast for its great wide open spaces.” Thielke added.

In addition to the breath-taking vistas of the South China Sea, lakes and jungles, it is possible to spot and experience wildlife in its natural habitat. There are otters, dusky leaf monkeys, crab-eating macaques and white-handed gibbons, plus more than 100 different species of birds, including fish eagles, hawk eagles, black-winged kites, herons, whistling ducks, oriental pied hornbills, eight different kingfisher species; and the list continues for this spectacular tropical sanctuary for golfers.

About The Els Club Desaru Coast

The 45-hole property in Desaru Coast, Johor boasts two Championship courses designed by World Golf Hall of Fame members. The Ocean Course, designed by the club’s namesake and four-time major champion, Ernie Els is set on one of the most spectacular plots of land anywhere in the world.

Overlooking the South China Sea, the course can comprise of any two of the three 9-hole courses on-site, offering unique variability. Each layout has its own character and personal touches by Els but they all take inspiration from the famous links courses spread across the UK, with vast rolling greens and firm run off areas designed to place a premium on a sharp short game.

The Valley Course is an 18-hole golf course designed by major champion, Vijay Singh and jointly developed with Ernie Els Design. The course traverses the valleys and stream of Desaru Coast with significant elevation changes providing the most eye-catching vistas. The 18-hole championship golf course covers approximately 41 hectares with 187 bunkers.

Complementing the two fantastic golf venues, each course boasts a full-service clubhouse. The Ocean Course clubhouse is a dramatic masterpiece, at 45,000 square feet, it is also home to the 261 Bar and Restaurant; the ultimate 19th hole and the world renowned Big Easy Bar & Grill; set against the backdrop of the Club’s remarkably scenic golf course and the South China Sea vistas.

The Valley Course clubhouse is an al fresco dining area named Lembah; is a more traditional golf club set up. Each course at The Els Club Desaru Coast is fitted with state of the art practice facilities that include a short game area, grass teeing grounds and The Els Performance Academy. The practice facilities are the perfect place to hone one's game. For more information, please visit www.elsclubmalaysia.com or email reservations.ecdc@elsclubmalaysia.com.
